▼ BYD Strengthens Presence in Vietnam

BYD has recently opened its first 13 stores in Vietnam and aims to expand its dealership network to around 100 by 2026. In addition, BYD is in discussions with several local governments regarding the potential construction of a factory in Vietnam to optimize its plans. Unlike its move to build a complete vehicle factory in Thailand, BYD has chosen to establish a parts factory in Vietnam.

 

▼ GEELY Plans to Introduce Methanol Fuel Vehicles in Malaysia

According to Malaysian media reports, GEELY Group is in talks with the Malaysian government about introducing its methanol fuel vehicles, potentially making Malaysia the next market for these vehicles after China and Europe. This has been confirmed by GEELY Group Vice President Wang Ruiping. GEELY is currently the world’s largest developer and producer of methanol fuel vehicles, having launched around 20 models that use methanol as fuel. To date, approximately 30,000 methanol fuel vehicles have been sold in China, accumulating nearly 10 billion kilometers of mileage.

On July 25, New Carzone, the Korea Auto Parts Association (KAPA), and LMI Sejong Logis No.11 (LMI) signed a tripartite cooperation agreement in Seoul, South Korea. The signing of this agreement marks the beginning of in-depth cooperation among the three parties in automotive parts data exchange and technical collaboration, aiming to establish a Sino-Korean joint global supply chain. The establishment of this “comprehensive platform” will enable real-time exchange of parts data and deep technical cooperation, building an efficient and reliable Sino-Korean joint global supply chain system. This platform will significantly improve the supply efficiency of parts and provide higher-quality automotive parts services to meet the demands of the Chinese, Korean, and international markets.

Zeekr’s 001 and X models have recently launched in Mexico. In 2024, Zeekr is accelerating its expansion into overseas markets. Currently, Zeekr has entered more than 25 major global markets, including Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Laos, and has signed agreements with partners in Israel and Kazakhstan.

At the fifth annual speech by Xiaomi Automotive founder Lei Jun, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype made its global debut. It is known that the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype and Xiaomi SU7 are developed from the same pure electric platform architecture. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype will officially compete on the Nürburgring Circuit in Germany in October 2024. Lei Jun announced, “Within the next 10 years, we aim to become the fastest four-door electric car at Nürburgring. We are prepared to work on this year after year until we become the strongest globally.”

▼ China’s Charging Pile Increase Reaches 3 Million Units This Year

At the 2024 Electric Vehicle Charging Network New Quality Productivity Development Seminar, Zhou Libo, Deputy Secretary-General of the Electric Transportation and Storage Division of the China Electricity Council, mentioned that by the end of June this year, the number of charging piles built in China had exceeded 10 million. Li Kang, Director of the Industry Research Department of the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, stated that the increase in charging piles this year is expected to be about 3 million units, two-thirds of which are private charging piles and one-third are public charging piles.

CATL has established Zhangzhou Runkai New Energy Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary through its fully-owned subsidiary, Times Green Energy Co., Ltd. The new company’s business scope includes sales of new energy vehicle battery swap facilities, emerging energy technology research and development, and battery sales. This move follows CATL’s signing of a battery swap project cooperation framework agreement with GAC Group’s Aion and Times Electric, further expanding its influence in the new energy vehicle battery swap field. The cooperation involves the development, production, data management, and after-sales service of battery swap models and batteries, aiming to improve the efficiency and convenience of battery swapping.

 

▼ SAIC’s Second Ocean-going Car Carrier Built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Delivered

On the evening of July 24, SAIC Group announced that its second ocean-going car carrier (Ro-Ro ship), built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has been delivered and officially named “SAIC Anji Jincheng.” The ship, which is 200 meters long, 38 meters wide, and 13 stories high, has 7,600 car spaces and a displacement of over 40,000 tons. It uses LNG dual-fuel clean power, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 30%. Currently, SAIC’s Anji Logistics owns 32 various car ships, including 11 river ships, 9 domestic sea ships, and 12 international sea ships, and has opened seven international self-operated routes to Southeast Asia, Mexico, South America, and Europe. By 2026, Anji Logistics’ annual water transportation capacity will reach 1.8 million units, with overseas self-operated annual transportation capacity reaching 1 million units.
