GAC Aion Thailand Intelligent Factory Officially Completed, First Phase Annual Production Capacity of 50,000 Units
On July 17, GAC Aion announced the completion of its intelligent factory in Thailand, marking the global simultaneous launch of its second-generation AION V, the company’s first global strategic model.
The first phase of the Thailand intelligent factory has an annual production capacity of 50,000 units, with plans to gradually expand to 100,000 units per year. The factory will be capable of producing multiple models, including the second-generation AION V, AION Y Plus, and Hyper HT, on the same production line.
This intelligent ecological factory in Thailand is GAC Aion’s first overseas facility, fully adopting the same advanced technologies as the world’s only new energy lighthouse factory.
BYD Launches Yuan PLUS in Senegal
On July 19, according to BYD’s official Weibo account, the company recently held a brand launch event in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, officially introducing the Yuan PLUS (known as BYD ATTO 3 overseas) as its first electric vehicle model in the Senegalese market. This launch aims to boost sustainable transportation in West Africa.
BYD to Build Second Electric Vehicle Factory in Southeast Asia in Cambodia
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced on social media that he has met with Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division, and BYD plans to invest in an electric vehicle assembly plant in Cambodia. The factory will have an annual assembly capacity of 20,000 electric vehicles.
This factory will be BYD’s second production base in Southeast Asia. According to Prime Minister Hun Manet, the vehicles produced in the Cambodian factory will not only supply the local market but also be exported to other Southeast Asian countries.
SAIC Group’s First European Factory May Be Located in Spain
According to reports from Europa Press and Expansión, SAIC Group is currently in discussions with the Spanish Ministry of Industry to establish an electric vehicle factory in Spain to produce its MG brand cars. SAIC Group will make a decision by September 30. Besides Spain, SAIC is also considering Hungary or the Czech Republic due to lower labor costs in these regions.

National Bureau of Statistics: China’s New Energy Vehicle Production Grew by 34.3% Year-on-Year in the First Half of the Year
On July 15, the National Bureau of Statistics reported that China’s new energy industry has achieved rapid growth this year due to continuous technological innovation and a complete industrial chain system. In the first half of the year, new energy vehicle production increased by 34.3% year-on-year, with supporting products such as charging piles and automotive lithium-ion batteries growing by 25.4% and 16.5%, respectively.
Second Quarter Sees Strong Rebound in Domestic Passenger Car Tires, Market Share Hits Record High
According to data released by F6 Technology on July 17, although the repair and paint spray market saw a year-on-year increase of 4% and 2%, respectively, the tire business remained flat, and maintenance declined by 3%. The overall aftermarket did not show strong growth. Notably, domestic brand passenger car tire sales in the second quarter of 2024 exceeded last year’s peak levels and are expected to continue rising.
Shanghai to Launch Public Testing of Driverless Cars Within a Week
Industry sources reveal that Shanghai is expected to start public testing of autonomous intelligent connected vehicles for ordinary citizens within the next week. The testing period will be completely free. The initial batch is expected to include five cars for public testing, with more vehicles and models to be added later based on test performance and operational adjustments.
